Partnership with Asian Development Bank (ADB)

In October 2013, Yokohama and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation toward sustainable solutions in city management and urban infrastructure development in developing countries (updated in May 2016 and December 2018). This partnership has been carried out in various ways based on this MoU.

Items of Partnership in the MoU

  1. Knowledge-sharing and activity support in capacity and human resource development
  2. Support for a regional city and urban institution knowledge network for mutual training and inter-city sharing of excellent case studies
  3. ADB participation in the Asia Smart City Conference and Asia Smart City Alliance. Expert exchange for other events, seminars, workshops and training planned by each institution
  4. Experience- and technical knowledge-sharing by Yokohama to ADB through the Y-PORT Center

  • Yokohama hosted the 50th ADB Annual Meeting (May 2017)
  • ADB(AP3F)funded research for the Y-PORT Project's public-private partnership-based project to improve solid waste disposal in Cebu City(May 2017)
  • Yokohama introduced its initiatives for urban development in an aging society at an aging society seminar in Manila (June 2017)
  • Partnered for the 6th Asia Smart City Conference (October 2017)
  • Held a joint workshop in Suva, Fiji (May 2018)
  • Held a joint workshop in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (May 2018)
  • Partnered for the 7th Asia Smart City Conference (November 2018)
  • Introduced the Y-PORT Project at an international forum on low-carbon development in Beijing (December 2018)
