After school kids clubs

What are after school kids clubs?

After school kids clubs are held in elementary schools. They provide a place for kids to play and spend time after school in a safe and comfortable environment.

Eligible children

1st - 6th grade elementary school students who attend elementary schools which provide an after school kids club.
In addition, 1st - 6th grade elementary school students who attend private elementary schools etc. who reside within a school district with an elementary school which provides an after school kids club.

Opening days

As a rule, after school kids clubs are open except on Sundays, national holidays and the year-end and New Year holiday season (December 29th - January 3rd).
However, after school kids clubs may be closed or the opening hours may be shortened due to unavoidable circumstances, when there is no demand for use of the club, or for other reasons.
Also, the days and hours of use will vary depending on the category of use.

Wakuwaku [Category 1]

Weekdays: After school until 4:00 p.m.
Saturdays: Not available
School holidays: 2 hours a day (depends on the after school kids club)
(Wakuwaku [Category 1] is intended as a place for children to play after school. Therefore, it may be cancelled in the event of a disaster, heat stroke alert, infectious disease countermeasures, etc.)

Sukusuku (Yuyake) [Category 2A]

Weekdays: After school until 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays: From 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
School holidays other than Saturdays: From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sukusuku (Hoshizora) [Category 2B]

Weekdays: After school until 7:00 p.m.
Saturdays: From 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
School holidays except Saturdays: From 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Wakuwaku [Category 1]

Wakuwaku [Category 1] is intended as a place for children to play after school. Therefore, it may be cancelled in the event of an emergency or for other reasons.
In the case of spot use, a fee of 800 yen per use and snack fee (actual cost) will be charged.
Spot use is a system to accept children of WAKUWAKU [Category 1] until 7:00 p.m. in situations when guardians cannot watch them after school due to temporary circumstances. This service is available only when there is a vacancy in the capacity of Sukusuku [Category 2].

Sukusuku (Yuyake) (Hoshizora) [Category 2AB]

Sukusuku (Yuyake) (Hoshizora) [Category 2AB] is intended for children from households in which the child's guardians are not available at the time the child returns home, and provide a place for kids to play and spend time after school.
"Children from households in which the child's guardians are not available at the time the child returns home" applies to those households in which the guardians are unable to take care of their children when they get home from school due to work or other reasons.

Sukusuku (Yuyake) [Category 2A]

April through June and September through March: 2,000 yen a month plus snack charge (actual cost)
July/August: 2,500 yen a month plus snack charge (actual cost)
(Free of charge for households that are receiving City of Yokohama financial assistance for education, households that are exempt from paying municipal residents' tax and income tax, and households that are receiving public assistance.)

Sukusuku (Hoshizora) [Category 2B]

April through June and September through March: 5,000 yen a month plus snack charge (actual cost)
(2,500 yen a month for households that are receiving City of Yokohama financial assistance for education, households that are exempt from paying municipal residents' tax and income tax, and households that are receiving public assistance.)
July/August: 5,500 yen a month plus snack charge (actual cost)
(3,000 yen a month for households that are in receipt of City of Yokohama financial assistance for education, households that are exempt from paying municipal residents' tax and income tax, and households that are receiving public assistance.)

What are after school children's clubs?

After school children's clubs are held outside elementary schools. They provide a place for kids to play and spend time if their guardians are not at home during daytime hours.

Eligible children

1st - 6th grade elementary school students living in Yokohama City to whom any of the following apply.

  • Households in which the child's guardians are not at home at the time the child returns home due to work, etc.
  • A guardian is at home during daytime hours but cannot look after the child due to health reasons, etc.

Opening days

Every week from Monday to Saturday (excluding national holidays and the period from Dec. 29 to Jan. 3)

Hamakko Fureai School Special Needs School

What is the Hamakko Fureai School Special Needs School?

The Hamakko Fureai School afterschool program is held in elementary schools. This program provides a place for kids to play and spend time after school in a safe and comfortable environment.
*This program is only held at some special needs schools (institutions in which young children and students with disabilities receive an education and learn knowledge and skills according to their condition).

Eligible children

Young children and students who attend the elementary or junior high sections of special needs schools with a Hamakko Fureai School Special Needs School in place.

Opening days

Every week from Monday to Saturday (excluding national holidays and the period from Dec. 29 to Jan. 3)

Weekdays: From when lessons end until 5 p.m.
