Clogging of drain pipes/repair work

- The cleaning and upkeep of drain pipes on residential land is the responsibility of the land owner.
- Drain pipes rarely become blocked or damaged if they are used correctly.
- For more details, please ask your apartment building owner or caretaker.

Beware of fraudsters posing as sewage inspectors!

There have been incidents of fraudsters posing as sewage inspectors to carry out unnecessary inspections of drain pipes on residential land, and charging people unfair sums of money and pressuring them into buying pharmaceuticals or electronic devices.
If someone recommends that you have your drain pipes inspected or repaired, refuse if there is no need for such work.
If you are suspicious about a person's credentials, ask to see a form of identification that will allow you to confirm his or her company name, employee name, and contact details, such as an employee ID card, and get in touch with your ward's Public Works Office. (Inquiries in Japanese only)

Sewage charge

Anyone who uses running water at home or at work and discharges waste water into the public sewage system has their meter read once every 2 months, and is billed for the use of the sewage system.

The sewage charge is included in your water bill, so please check it on the statement you receive after your water meter has been read. If you pay your water bill through payment slips, please ensure to pay by the stated deadline.

Also, anyone who does not use running water (for example, well water) but discharges waste water into the public sewage system is still required to pay the sewage charge. In such cases, please contact the Accounting and Management Division, Environmental Planning Bureau (contact details provided below).
